Regional Connectivity in ASEAN and China

Regional trade is growing rapidly in Asia, especially after the ASEAN Free Trade Area (AFTA) in 1992. This trade agreement enables the growing production networks in ASEAN such as the automobile and electronics products. Although the traditional trade routes are mainly in the maritime sector, the land transport is becoming more important since the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) cooperation was formed. Thus the role of regional connectivity becomes more important, through the well-established transport network in this region.
