Tarun Basu is a media personality of over 40 years' standing. He has worked in both Indian and international media organizations.

He is the co-founder, chief editor and director of the Indo-Asian News Service (IANS), India's only private and independent news agency and media services company that operates on multimedia platforms.

An alumnus of Delhi University, Basu did his advanced journalism training in Germany.

Basu has travelled all over the world and has been a regular invitee on the Indian prime minister's and president's media delegations in visits all over the world. He has been traveled with China with three Indian Prime Ministers – 1993, 2003 and 2008.

He has covered conflict situations in India and South Asia. In recent years he has been a special invitee to the World News Agencies' Conference in Spain, World Media Summit in China, the Beijing Olympic Games and the World Cup Football in South Africa.

Basu also heads a think tank, the Society for Policy Studies (www.spsindia.in) that focuses on matters of public policy and contemporary issues, and runs the South Asia Monitor (www.southasiamonitor.org), an online journal and discussion platform on our region.

Basu also has founded the International Media Institute of India (IMII-www.imii.co.in), a multimedia training school that conducts media literacy and communication workshops for educational, research and other institutions.
