作品:《The Spring Festival Traditions》

作者:张宸恺(Kevin)11岁 进才实验小学五(3)班

Every year during the Spring Festival, there are always a lot of traditions around us. I would like to share some with you.

In northern cities of China, it is always cold during Spring Festival. Because of the coldness, the architects build Ice castles to celebrate Chinese New Year. There are a lot of LED lights in the ice. It’s frosty glory.

Nuan Quan is a little town in the west of Beijing. ‘Dashuhua’ traditional art dating back to the Ming Dynasty was created to celebrate Chinese New Year. The beautiful ‘flowers’ are made of shards of molten metal. When the molten iron hits on the old wall, the effect is so beautiful and amazing! More importantly, the craftsmen leave the danger to themselves, dedicate the beauty to people and the coming year. ‘Dashuhua’ is not only the ancient flower, but also the spiritual flower of the craftsmen to express their wishes.

Besides of these conventions, people all over China always set off firecrackers. There is a saying that there is a monster called ‘Nian’ and it always comes to cause trouble in the towns, cities or countryside. So, we need loud noises to frighten the ‘Nian’ away! The firecrackers also represent the harvest of the coming year.

I believe Spring Festival is a great time to stay home and get some rest. It’s not only a festival, but also a wonderful time for ‘reunion’ and ‘enjoyment’. During Chinese New Year, some people bring gifts back home, while some people take luggage to travel. Everyone finds a way to be together with the ones they love and celebrate.
