Nepal's constitution drafting body asks lawmakers to avoid foreign trips

 KATHMANDU, May 13 (Xinhua) -- Nepal's Constituent Assembly (CA) Chairman Subas Chandra Nembang has asked lawmakers to avoid foreign trips until the promulgation of a new constitution.

     The head of the constitution drafting body made such announcement in the meeting of CA on Tuesday, stating that such visits would affect the ongoing constitution drafting body.

     "I also urged the political parties to stop the lawmakers' visit to foreign countries," Nembang said while addressing the CA. He also made such request stating that in the previous CA, citing distractions to their constitution drafting efforts.

     He also asked the lawmakers to suspend visits to districts. Currently, more than 50 lawmakers are visiting different countries.

     Immediately after the ruling, Former prime minister and senior leader of the UCPN (Maoist) Baburam Bhattarai announced that he would not visit any countries till the promulgation of the new constitution.

     Two weeks ago, Bhattarai was elected as a Chairperson of the Political Dialogue and Consensus Committee of the CA.

     Nembang is scheduled to meet heads of diplomatic missions to ask them not to invite lawmakers to visit their countries.
