Ju Mengjun, president of Asia-Pacific Regional Bureau of Xinhua News Agency and President of Asia-Pacific Daily delivered speech in the forum

The first South Asia Development Forum hosted by Asia-Pacific Regional Bureau, Xinhua News Agency is held in Hong Kong Renaissance Harbor View hotel, during which government officials, experts and scholars from China and many South Asian countries carried out in-depth  discussions over issues of common concerns.

Mr. Ju Mengjun, president of Asia-Pacific Regional Bureau of Xinhua News Agency and President of Asia-Pacific Daily gave a speech in the forum.

He said that South Asia is endowed with long and splendid history and culture, nurtured
in vast ocean and land. South Asia, rich in natural resources and resided by hard working and indigenous people, has great potential. South Asian people long for peace and stability with a strong will to develop themselves.

Mr. Ju added that, due to the historical and realistic reasons, the ethnical and religious conflicts are complicated in this region. Meanwhile, the war in Afghanistan and political turbulence in some other countries make the regional economic growth even slower. By far it is still one of the poorest regions in the globe. In the Asia-Pacific region, compared with ASEAN and some other regional organizations, the development in SAARC countries and the integration in South Asia remain comparatively slow. Therefore, ways to maintain long-term peace and stability in this region and to facilitate its economic growth have always been important concerns of the world.

The purpose of this forum is to build a platform for all parties to exchange ideas, pool our wisdom over the common concerns of South Asia's development and carry out profound discussions, so as to make our due contribution in the peace, stability and cooperation in South Asia.
